What is evaluations?
York Little League evaluations are how we make sure every player is placed in the right division — challenged, confident, and set up to have a great season.
To keep things fair, we use independent evaluators from local travel ball clubs with no ties to YLL. They score each player across six skill areas:
- Throwing — accuracy and velocity at varying distances
- Grounders — footwork, fielding position, and transition to throw
- Fly Balls — reaction, footwork, and tracking the ball
- Baserunning — fundamentals, turn quality, and timed home-to-second runs
- Hitting — balance, mechanics, and timing
Scores are used to determine Majors eligibility and to build balanced, competitive teams at every level. No system is perfect, but this process has worked well — and if a player is ready to move up mid-season, that opportunity exists.
There’s nothing to prepare for. Just show up, play ball, and let your kid’s game speak for itself.
